Like many of us, Teresa and her family came to live in Puerto Rico due to her husband’s career. Don Mullet is an engineer working at the Port.  This Boston native (born & raised!) is a five-year PR resident.  Teresa is a dedicated stay at home mom raising three great kids: Ethan, 12, Shanna, 9 and Luke who is 7.  The children, as well as Teresa, have adapted quickly to their new home. One big factor has been her involvement with the San Juan Community Library @ BUCAPLAA.  She learned of the library from an English speaking neighbor and immediately felt welcomed there. Teresa is an avid reader so the connection to the library was immediate.  She soon began to volunteer her time there.  Working at the library allowed her to share her work with her kids and also get them involved.  The added bonus was that she learned about Newcomers there and has been an active member of this club ever since.  Teresa likes to keep her agenda fully booked because she also finds time to run the catechism program at her church, San Ignacio in Rio Piedras. Life near the ocean must be her destiny because Teresa grew up vacationing in York Beach, Maine. Many of her lifelong friends are still there. It is still her favorite place to visit each year.

Q - What are your favorite places in Puerto Rico?

A - I love to just drive around the island and see all the green! We take a family vacation to Rincon every January.  I also like to go to Guavate on Sundays.

Q - What are your favorite things about the island?

A - I have wonderful neighbors and live in a very friendly neighborhood in Guaynabo.

Q - What are your least favorite things?

A - The politicians don’t seem to care about the people they are supposed to serve. They seem more concerned about fighting each other. I’m not political but it bothers me.

Q - Any favorite restaurants you can recommend?

A - We like Shirley’s Pizza in Guaynabo, near Ft. Buchanan.

Q - What place in PR do you think everyone ‘must’ visit?

A - El Yunque. We love to bring a picnic and let the kids play in the river.

Q - What survival tip would you offer a newcomer to the island?

A - Don’t compare your new home to your old one. Be open to new ideas and you’ll find something you like in the new place. Make the best of it!
