2006/2007 was the 40th anniversary of the Club, to celebrate a small group of members gathered together members favorite recipes and published a cook book.  This is on sale for $15 per copy and available by emailing [email protected].  The sales from the books will all go towards our charities for this year.

The Following are some of the interest Groups we have run:

American Mahjong  - Info to come
Arts and Crafts See the Coqui Courier for up to date information on this group.
Book Clubs This year we have 2 Book Groups meeting, one in San Juan and one in Dorado.  They meet monthly to discuss up to date publications and a little social interaction too!
Bridge The emphasis of Newcomer's Bridge is on sociability rather than skill level.  This friendly Day Bridge is played once a month at a members home with each player bringing their lunch.  At Christmas there is usually a festive day of bridge with a special Luncheon and plenty of social chatter.
Bunco  A social dice game played in rounds, most commonly played with 12 people in tables of four with three dice per table. Lots of prizes- for the most wins, the most losses, for rolling the most wipeouts (all ones) for rolling the most buncos (all sixes).  See worldbunco.comInfo to come
Chinese Mahjong Chinese Mahjong was started in The Newcomer's Club of San Juan in 1993 by Virginia Goff.  At that time it was difficult to find any rule books specifically for the Chinese version so little by little the current rules were put together and as the group got more proficient more of the historic rules were added.  It can be a game of stimulation, competition, relaxation, challenging and provocative but first and foremost it is FUN .  It is also an addictive game, as can be shown by our current diehard members.  In the movie The Joy Luck Club lifetime friendships grow as good friends are made and we, as part of the Newcomers Club are proud to say we have a terrific group with tremendous camaraderie!  Visit www.sloperama.com. for more information on this great game and remember  Newcomer's Mahjong meets on Tuesdays each week.
Cookery A new activity for the Newcomers Club, this takes place once a month and features a themed cookery lesson  including lunch and a glass of wine.
Dinner Club A chance for couples to get together and enjoy the delights of a gastronomic meal cooked by ourselves, served by ourselves and hosted at one of our members homes.  Alternatively the Dinner Club can be held in a local restaurant where the theme is relax and enjoy!

   Dorado Doings

& East End Doings

Two smaller groups, who are a part of the main body of the club, but are active in other areas on the island.  They give their members extra activities and chances to enjoy making friends in their areas.
Golf Special tee times and rates for Newcomers Mondays through Thursday mornings. Scrambles, clinics and tournaments for all playing levels.  Occasionally lessons are offered at reduced rates and this is one of the most popular activities offered by the Newcomers Club
Kidz Korner Social group for moms and kids, meeting weekly for play in various parks, at local children’s museums or at other child-friendly venues, followed by lunch at different cafes  or private homes. A great way for mums and toddlers to socialize!
Movie Group Meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 12 noon in Plaza Las Americas outside Boarders; the group usually manage to get into the first show of the day at reduced prices.  Yet another great way to meet people and keep up with what is new on the silver screen.
Needle Craft The needlecraft group is a weekly activity and you are encouraged to bring along that project you have been promising yourself you would finish or even better, start a new one. If you want to learn something new there are many talented members who can help.  You can stitch, talk and laugh all at the same time!!.
